Total Knee Replacement Rehab at Forward Physical Therapy
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is one of the most common orthopedic surgeries performed in the United States. The quality of your post-surgical rehabilitation directly determines your functional outcome — how well you walk, climb stairs, return to exercise, and live your life.
Return+ TKA Protocol
Our proprietary Return+ platform tracks your knee replacement recovery with structured testing across 7 phases (Phase I through 1-year follow-up):
- Knee ROM tracking — flexion and extension, involved vs. uninvolved, with LSI
- Quad and hamstring strength — handheld dynamometry with limb symmetry targets
- Gait speed — community ambulation threshold (≥3.9 ft/s)
- 5x Sit-to-Stand — functional lower extremity strength (≤12 sec target)
- KOOS JR — validated knee-specific patient-reported outcome measure
- Balance and single leg stance — fall risk assessment and progression
Pre-Surgical Optimization
Research shows that patients who enter surgery stronger come out stronger. We offer pre-operative physical therapy to build quad strength, ROM, aerobic capacity, and functional baseline — giving you the best possible starting point for recovery.
What to Expect
Your recovery is measured, not assumed. At every visit, we track objective data and adjust your program accordingly. Your surgeon receives reports with real numbers — not generic progress notes. That’s the Forward PT standard.
No Referral Needed
Wisconsin’s Direct Access law means you can see a physical therapist without a doctor’s referral.
The Forward PT Standard
Every session at Forward Physical Therapy is 1-on-1 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. No aides, no double-booking, no exceptions. We combine evidence-based rehabilitation with our proprietary Return+ testing platform to deliver measurable outcomes — not just subjective notes.
