Workers’ Compensation Physical Therapy
Day 1 injury care through return to work. On-site and in-clinic. All carriers accepted.
Work injuries are different. The demands are specific, the timeline matters, and the goal is clear: get back to work safely, as fast as possible, without re-injury. That requires a team that understands the physical demands of the job, the medical-legal framework, and how to measure readiness objectively.
We have built our workers’ compensation program around that reality. Our clinicians hold continuing education certifications in work comp management. We have built the software that runs our Functional Capacity Evaluations. And we go where the work is — with on-site physical therapy at factories and job sites in addition to our two clinic locations.
First Aid Injury Triage Program
Many of our work comp patients are seen the same day as the injury. We understand how critical early intervention is — not just clinically, but financially. When an injured worker with a shoulder strain sees a primary care doctor first, the typical pathway is a prescription for anti-inflammatories, imaging, a referral to an orthopedic specialist, and weeks of lost time before treatment even begins. That delay costs tens of thousands of dollars in claim costs and lost productivity — and the worker deconditions the entire time.
Our first aid injury triage program eliminates that delay. Employers or HR departments set up the relationship with us in advance. When an injury happens, the worker comes straight to us. We evaluate, triage, and begin treatment the same day. If the injury requires physician involvement or imaging, we coordinate that immediately. If it does not — and many do not — we handle it start to finish.
The numbers tell the story: work comp claims resolved within 1 month average $800. Claims that stay open beyond 6 months average $29,000 (Hashemi et al., Journal of Occupational & Environmental Medicine, 1997). Every week of delay costs both the employee and the employer. The employee loses fitness, gains weight, and falls further behind. The employer absorbs lost productivity and escalating claim costs.
Getting in with us early saves both. The worker gets evaluated and treated the same day. The employer keeps the claim small. The injury stays an injury — not a 6-month saga of imaging, specialist visits, injections, and lost time that could have been avoided with the right first step.
What We Offer
Day 1 Injury Care
When an employee gets hurt, the clock starts. We often see injured workers within hours of the incident — not days, not weeks. Early intervention reduces lost work days, lowers total claim costs, and gets the employee on the right path before compensation patterns set in. No referral needed — Wisconsin direct access means the injured worker can come straight to us.
On-Site Physical Therapy
We send our clinicians directly to factories and job sites to provide physical therapy where the work happens. This eliminates travel time for the employee, reduces time away from the job, and allows our clinicians to see the actual work environment and demands firsthand. When we understand what the job requires, we build a rehab program that matches.
Work Conditioning Program
Our work conditioning program goes beyond traditional rehab. We test aerobic thresholds using our graded treadmill protocol to determine the worker’s cardiovascular capacity. We assess strength, endurance, functional movement, and job-specific demands. The program is built to progressively restore the physical capacity needed for the specific job — not a generic exercise program, but a structured return-to-work plan with measurable benchmarks.
Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
Our clinicians are certified in performing Functional Capacity Evaluations — comprehensive assessments that objectively measure a worker’s ability to perform job-specific physical demands. We built the software that runs our FCEs, giving us complete control over the testing protocol, data collection, and reporting. The result is a detailed, defensible report that answers the question: can this person safely do this job?
Health Capacity Testing
For employers focused on prevention, our Health Capacity Exam measures body composition, grip strength, aerobic capacity, and functional performance. This baseline data identifies risk factors before an injury happens and provides a benchmark for return-to-work decisions if one does.
Post-Surgical Rehab
For work injuries requiring surgery — rotator cuff repair, lumbar discectomy, carpal tunnel release, knee surgery — we manage the full post-operative recovery with structured testing and objective progress tracking.
Aerobic Training Built Into Every Program
Every work comp patient gets structured aerobic training as part of their rehab. We use a graded treadmill test to identify ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2) and prescribe training at the right intensity. This reduces pain sensitivity, improves cardiovascular capacity for physical work demands, and accelerates return to full duty. The modality — rower, ski erg, bike, inclined treadmill — matters less than the intensity. We get you to threshold.
Why Employers Choose Us
- Speed — injured workers seen within 24 hours at the latest, often within hours of the incident
- On-site capability — PT at your facility, not just our clinic
- Certified FCE clinicians — with proprietary software for objective, defensible reporting
- Work conditioning — structured return-to-work programs with aerobic threshold testing
- Communication — we coordinate with employers, adjusters, case managers, and physicians throughout the claim
- Independence — we are independently owned. Our recommendations are based on the worker’s clinical presentation, not a corporate protocol.
